Many years ago, a young girl stood in a pasture of sheep. She was there to choose one of the flock to be her very own. The shepherd lovingly pointed out a few young lambs, but one lamb stood near by. This lamb was gentle, and loving. She was loyal to her shepherd, following his every step. She was his dearest lamb of the flock. Her name was Babe, and the girl chose her.

The young girl promised to love and care for Babe, and the shepherd saw she meant it with everything in her being. He gave his dear Babe to the little girl.

Babe and the girl quickly became best friends. They would roam the new pasture together, Babe following her new shepherd. They would rest under the shade trees on hot, summer days. Babe trusted her young shepherdess. She had nothing to fear.

That girl was me. I believe that God had ordained those moments in my life, to teach me as a young child the relationship between the Shepherd and the lamb.

All through my walk on this journey to know God, He has proven to be my Good Shepherd.  He has walked before me, leading, guiding my every step. He has climbed the mountains before me, through impassable dangers. He has pulled me up from the crevices I have fallen into. My Shepherd has carried me on His shoulders when I have been wounded. He tends to my wounds, He watches over me day and night. He has brought me to the lush green pastures, and has led me by the still waters. He watches over me, He provides for me, for I am His dearest lamb. He has protected me from the lions and wolves that would have devoured me. He calls out, and His lamb knows His voice. I trust Him.

I know in this life, we want to try to go our own way. We try to find the green pastures ourselves, often stumbling and falling. Sometimes we think we know better than God, and venture out away from His protection. He always comes looking for us, getting us out of the trouble we have gotten ourselves in to.

All He wants us to do is trust Him. To put our complete trust, that He knows what is best for our lives; that He will take care of all our needs; that He will lead us through life on a safe path if we will follow Him; that He will protect us from every danger that comes our way.

Can you trust the Shepherd? A lamb is completely dependent on the shepherd. The lamb finds security and rest in the arms of the shepherd. Come find rest from the Good Shepherd.

“THE LORD is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.
He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures;
He leads me beside the still and restful waters.
He refreshes and restores my life (my self);
He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—
not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake.
Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.
Surely or only goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life,
and through the length of my days the house of the Lord
